The Black Tube Chrome is nice but I have noticed one issue with it. If you have Chrome open & you open Outlook Express the top bar of Chrome turns Google Blue, once you close OE it turns black again.
This is not happening with any of the other themes I’ve tried?
It’s as if one of the .png files from the original skin is still blue.

I downloaded one of the chrome skins and it is an IE direct access to the same website of the download and a .dll that doesn’t do anything. If you could please enlighten me as to how to install the new skin that would be great. Thank you so much.

Have you updated Chrome?
There was a recent update & if you applied it, it creates another set of folders in the Explorer directory tree. Effectively you end up with two “Themes” folders. Make sure you are dropping the new dll file into the correct themes folder (it will be the 2nd one in the tree).
I’m not sure if Google have done this in order to be able to roll back or if it’s an error?

@lurko - Here’s the installation method from the first post
“How to install? I hear you say.. so to install these themes, download your favorite theme/skin, unzip it and replace the file named “default.dll” with the one found in the directory tree below (back it up first!)
Users on Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings > User > Local Settings > Application Data > Google > Chrome > Application > 0.2.149.27 > Themes
Users on Windows Vista
C:\Users > User > AppData > Local > Google > Chrome > Application > 0.2.149.27 > Themes “
@Gadgetman496- Maybe the theme developer was in a hurry to launch the theme lol .. and yes I have also noticed the error of two similar folder trees, they might fix it soon (like they always do)

I hope they do aLee, It’s a nice skin\theme
Just to mention that if you click on the “Spanner” icon in Chrome & choose the “About Google Chrome” option it will tell you if Chrome is at the latest version. If it’s not it will display an “Update” button.
The latest version of Chrome 0.2.149.29 so if anyone has updated the location path for the dll file will be slightly different to what you have posted, it will be
C:\Documents and Settings > User > Local Settings > Application Data > Google > Chrome > Application > 0.2.149.29 > Themes
The correct themes folder will always be under the latest version number folder.

Nobody stole anything!
This is merely another resource for collect skins.
I heard nobody claiming it was theirs…
Look at the opening statement on this page:

Skins made for previous Chrome versions seem incompatible with the latest beta, v 0.3, causing the browser to crash on launch. But I cannot locate confirmation or compatible skins.
Can you tell your readers when they might expect compatible revisions?

Themes compatible for v 0.3??
November 9th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
it wont let me use it…. on start up it crashes =/

It’s possible to use it with Chrome 0.3 as well, but first you need to convert it compatible with the new chrome…
1. download ThemeUpdater: http://www.codigobit.net/
2. download ResourceHacker: http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/
3. put the reshacker.exe to the same directory with ThemeUpdater.
4. download skin dll, run ThemeUpdater, drag dll to the application window and press “Start” - conversion will take some time.
5. replace the default.dll with the new one, renaming it to Default.dll like usual
